| (Media-Newswire.com) – Durham, N.C. & Roanoke, Va. – Jan. 18, 2011 – MetaMetrics® and Interactive Achievement have leveled the passages in the OnTRAC testing system using The Lexile® Framework for Reading, allowing educators to build custom benchmark exams based on actual student reading ability.
OnTRAC delivers standards-aligned, web-based content, assessments and instant reports to evaluate student achievement in English, mathematics, history and science. The system provides immediate feedback on multiple-choice tests—like most year-end assessment formats—that educators can now custom develop using the Lexile measures of their students and the test items. Lexile measures will help educators select test passages that students should be able to read and understand, leading to more valid information on the growth required for students to achieve a state’s proficiency levels. “OnTRAC helps educators monitor student performance throughout the school year so that they can provide the remediation necessary to prepare students for end-of-year tests,” said Jacob Gibson, president of Interactive Achievement. “Since over half of U.S. students already receive Lexile measures from high-stakes tests, assigning Lexile measures to the OnTRAC passages allows educators to use a common metric to build assessments that can provide the benchmark data they need to help students achieve at the highest levels.” MetaMetrics President Malbert Smith III, Ph.D. added, “Lexile measures in OnTRAC can provide educators with greater confidence in building tests that their students should be able to comprehend, ensuring that educators have valid assessment data to help guide their classroom instruction.” The Lexile Framework is an educational tool for accurately matching readers with targeted text. Lexile measures help educators, librarians and families select books, articles and other materials that will provide an appropriate level of challenge for a student’s unique reading ability and goals. Recognized as the most widely adopted reading metric, over 30 million Lexile measures are reported annually from reading assessments and programs.
